To ensure a successful and enjoyable trip it is best to plan well in
advance. It is not unusual for golfers to plan 12 months in advance to
avoid disappointment. The following are some useful hints:
High season runs from April to October, though golf can be played all
year round, weather and course conditions permitting.
May and September are the busiest months for golf and need to be
planned for well in advance.
It is advisable to plan and reserve golf tee-times before making
accommodation and transport reservations.
Allow for extra time on the estimated journey to courses, especially
where 2 courses in one day are planned.
All SWING courses have availability on weekdays. There is less
availability on weekends due to member competitions. Check with your
tour operator or SWING for advice.
Plan for realistic numbers to avoid disappointment with securing
suitable tee times.
If hiring a vehicle ensure it is large enough to accommodate golfers
and baggage. SWING or your tour operator can provide full details. A
chauffeur driven coach is a good option for larger groups.
While you are here
Please arrive at the course at least 30 minutes prior to tee off. If
you are delayed phone the relevant club or SWING to inform them and
they will help to reschedule where possible.
Caddies can be requested in advance but it is advisable to check with
the course the day before play.
All SWING clubs have full catering facilities. In high season the
better restaurants may require advance booking, particularly
for groups.
Easy Access
It is as easy to get to South West Ireland as it is to sink
a three inch putt.
All SWING courses are easily accessible from Shannon, Cork and Kerry
Airports. Between them, these three airports are well serviced with
direct flights, or one-stop connections, from most major cities in the
United States, United Kingdom and continental Europe.
Ask your travel agent for full details.
Dublin and Belfast airports, the ferryports of Cork, Rosslare, Dublin,
Belfast and Larne, are all within easy driving of South West Ireland. |

Climate
Ireland has a warm temperate climate due mainly to the influence of the
Atlantic Gulf Stream, consequently it does not suffer from extreme
temperatures experienced by many other countries at similar latitude.
Golf can be played all year round but high season is from April to
October. While it rains in Ireland the average hourly rainfall amounts
are quite low. Bring your wet suit just in case. |

Remember to repair plug marks
Here is a reminder of the correct and incorrect way of repairing plug
marks.
|
 |
 |
Correct: Insert pitch repair fork just outside the back of the divot
hole. Pull the back of the divot towards the centre of the plug mark
(not up). Pull both sides of the ball mark into the centre. This should
close the hole. Then gently tap the ball mark down with your putter.
|
 |
|
 |
 |
Incorrect: Pulling up on the centre or the sides will leave the centre
raised
to be scalped by the next mower! |

1. Caddies
Caddies are available in limited numbers at all SWING courses. Caddies
vary depending on their experience and senior, junior and bag pullers
are available at most courses. While caddies can be requested in
advance they cannot be guaranteed. They normally will carry
2 bags (a double) and it is advisable to hire a least one per fourball.
Fees are cleared with the caddy master and the tip is at the
discretion of the golfer.
2. Equipment Hire
Club hire is available at all the SWING clubs through the Professional
Shop. It is advisable to book in advance. Bring your own golf shoes.
3. Pull Carts/Electric Carts (Buggies)
Pull carts are available at all clubs for a small fee.
Electric carts are available in limited numbers at most of the SWING
courses. Some of the links courses do not allow the use of carts due to
the unsuitability of the terrain and a desire by the clubs to maintain
old traditions. Carts should be booked in advance.
4. Handicap Certificates
It is advisable to bring a handicap certificate from your home club.
5. Golf Lessons
Golf lessons can be organised at all SWING Clubs with the resident
professional.
6. Golf Shoes
A growing number of clubs are adopting a soft spike policy even
though metal spikes are still allowable on many of the SWING courses.
Spikes can be changed in all pro shops.
7. Dress Code
Smart casual attire is expected at all SWING clubs. Knee length shorts
and collared shirts are the minimum requirements on
the course.
