STEWART CINK BRITISH OPEN 2009 WINNER
July 2009
Stewart Cink proved again that Ireland is a true home of golf. Cink stayed at Doonbeg Lodge, in County Clare and played on the nearby SWING courses of Lahinch, Ballybunion and Doonbeg. In 2007 and 2008 Harrington played in the Irish PGA Championship at The European Club by-passing the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond. This victory by Cink will see many more of the top world players coming to Ireland to relax and sharpen their games prior to golf's biggest trophy, the Claret Jug.
Mark O Meara, Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Phil Mickleson among others are already fans of Ireland where the golfers can relax and indulge in their past times such as fishing and enjoy relaxing golf and good food at the likes of Adare, Dromoland, Fota and Killarney and then test their skills on the famous links courses of Waterville, Ballybunion, Lahinch, Doonbeg, Tralee, Dooks and Dingle.
Cink described his first Major victory "a surreal experience" and paid tribute to Watson.
After stopping the five-time champion Cink said: "Extraordinary just tips the iceberg.
"Playing against Tom Watson, this stuff just does not happen. I grew up watching him - he has turned back the clock and I feel so happy just being part of it. I've just felt very calm all week. I played some links golf in Ireland last week and that was very good relaxation and preparation. I also found something in my swing."
