Ireland is a country with a unique mix of beautiful countryside, quaint towns, endearing people and a wonderful variety of world-class links and parkland courses.
Its magnificent coastal landscape has inspired the creation of some of the world's great links courses that have played an important role in the history of the game of golf. My golf design business is taking me back to Ireland on a regular basis.
I will certainly avail of the invitation from my friends at SWING to play the famous links courses in the South West of Ireland and also explore those golf courses off the beaten track that I have not yet had a chance to play. For those that venture to this country, I hope that you will enjoy the magic of Ireland and its golf courses as much as I have.

I can't thank the SWING courses enough for the part they played in my
British Open Victory at Royal Birkdale in 1998. I am thankful for
having so many opportunities to play such golfing gems. I know it's a
cliché, but it is always great to renew my acquaintance with the Land
of my Ancestors.
It has been my great pleasure to bring friends of mine to the South
West and have them welcomed like family. My good friend Tiger Woods has
used the SWING courses as a launch pad for British Open success and
I will always remember Payne Stewart (RIP) shooting a hole in one on
Ballybunion's 220 yard par three, third hole.
I hope you enjoy the pages that follow and that someday you will get to
enjoy the best golf experience one would wish to have.

Without question, golf in Ireland occupies a special place in my heart.
It was on links courses much like the ones found here, Turnberry in
Scotland and Royal St. George's in England, that I won two Open
Championships. I also had the good fortune to design Doonbeg Golf Club
in County Clare, a links-style course that opened in 2002. Blessed with
one of the best pieces of property for a golf course that I have ever
seen, my name will be indelibly linked with the golfing lore of this
great land. For that, I am honored and humbled.
It was from my 23 visits during the construction of Doonbeg that my
love of this land and its golf courses swelled. Natural elements shape
the land and are central to how the game is experienced in Ireland.
That's what makes this place, and its courses, so special.
I encourage you to read about these wonderful courses and discover the
exhilaration of golf that awaits in Ireland.
