Named one of the world’s great golf courses by Golf Digest, County Sligo Golf Club is situated at Rosses Point, a seaside village north west of Sligo town.

Known locally as “The Point”, County Sligo Golf Club is widely regarded as one of the great links courses. It offers panoramic views of long sandy beaches, the Atlantic Ocean and Sligo harbour. Founded in 1894 as a 9 Hole course, it is now a modern 27 hole complex with a spacious clubhouse and the facilities golfers expect.

Besides the views, Rosses Point golf course boasts a wonderful but challenging experience. The course is filled with dramatic undulations, elevated tees, and raised plateau greens. The wind coming in from the sea is a constant factor but the 3rd, 5th, 10th & 14th holes have satisfying downhill drives to compensate.

The views from County Sligo Golf Club are spectacular, from the third tee on a clear day one can see five counties, the lighthouse out to sea, the cliffs of Slieve League in Donegal, Lissadell House in the trees across the bay, Queen Maeve’s grave on top of Knocknarea, Drumcliffe Church next to where Yeats is buried and the imposing background of Ireland’s table mountain Benbulben.

Archaeologists have recorded over 60 tombs at this site with some monuments over 6,500 years old. Tombs are accessible and a restored traditional cottage houses a small exhibition about the site. If you are visiting wear shoes suitable for walking on uneven terrain.
